30.7.2009 Day 5

I wake to a bright and sunny day but I feel lethargic. I am going to get lunch and take a nap later on. I am leaving Big Apple today, before I go broke. Ha. A meal costs me, on the average, USD 15, after adding the amount of gratuity! My cheapest meal was Mac chicken burger meal I had last which cost me USD 5.50. Hmmm.. what shall I have today?

In the end, I go to the chinese restaurant I used to frequent to get lunch. This is sliced chicken with asparagas which cost me USD7.50 ;)

Fortune cookie fun.

This is my fortune ~

29.7.2009 Day Four

After a solid rest of 14 hours last night, I am fully recharged! I walk to Times Square, in hope to get ticket for noon show.

Yay! I get ticket for 2.30pm musical, which cost me USD 66!

Once I get my ticket, I go to Sapporo for lunch. There's a line when I get there and I am asked to share a table with a girl who queue ahead of me. I feel kinda awkward facing a stranger, dining in a restaurant. One good thing is our eyes barely meet as her eyes is glued to music videos on her I-phone. And I keep myself occupied, viewing the photos I just snapped in Times Square. The awkwardness fades away very quickly.

After lunch, I walk to the theater and I have one hour to kill before the musical commences. Initially, I intend to walk to Columbus Circus to find MJ magazines, but I give the idea a miss as I am afraid of not getting back in time for the show.

At 2pm, a super long line is formed outside the theater and the end of the line is not in sight. I don't like the idea of queuing to enter the theater, thus I wait for the line to clear. I stand there for like 30mins and to my astonishment, the line takes forever to clear!!! Getting a little impatient, I end up cutting the line with other crowd who runs out of patience like me. Ha.

This shop has a wide selection of magazines! You name it, they have it here! I think the amount of magazines here can bury you alive!! Haha! What you see here is perhaps, 1/4 of the shop!

I have been searching for MJ magazines, a friend wants me get. I walk to a magazine shop which is near the Park Central Hotel, where we used to stay and I remember they keep back dated magazines, because I am certain I'll find what I want ;)

I barely know Michael Jackson, frankly speaking. I ain't a fan of his. After his death, I didn't take note of his news, until I start reading these magazines and begin learning about him ~ I am daunted by his transformation.

My first Madeleine Wickham book ;) And this is also my very first hard cover book. I normally get paperbacks as they cost much lesser. This one costs me USD4! The usual price is USD26. Hard cover really feels nicer! ;) I can't wait to read it!

Madeleine is also known as Sophie Kinsella, the author for the bestselling shopaholic series. The gatecrasher is her second series. I am sure I will enjoy it as much as her old series!

I walk for god damn 30minutes to hit Lexington Avenue from Colombus Circus on 8th Avenue! Thus I hop onto any bus which is going to bring me to Marriot. When I get onto the bus, it starts pouring heavily! So I run to Bath n Body Works which is across the road for shelter, when I alighted. In less than ten minutes, the rain stops. So I hurriedly go grab dinner at Mac Donald's before heading back to hotel, as I have no clue when the next downpour is?!

28.7.2009 Day Three

Good morning, New York City! I rise at 6am today and rested 12hrs last night. I get out of bed to shoot my doll when I see sunlight streaming into my room.

I quickly turn on the television to check the weather forecast on the morning news. It says sunny but 20% of scattered storm is expected. Hence, I get ready immediately to leave for Brooklyn Bridge, hoping to avoid the storm if it comes later in the day.

The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States, stretching 1825m over the East River, connecting the New York City boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn.

The Manhattan Bridge is a suspension bridge that crosses the East River in New York City, connecting Lower Manhattan with Brooklyn.

After lunch, I walk back to hotel hurriedly as the heat is seriously unbearable! The first thing I do is to swig an ice cold drink!

I spend the whole evening reading until 7pm, that's when I have problem keeping my eyes open ;)

27.7.2009 Day Two

Mavis brings me to anthropologie on 5th Avenue. I am captivated by the store decoration. You can find clothes, shoes, bags, accessories and home stuffs here. They have a selection of vintage-inspired clothes too. You can visit it's website at www.anthropologie.com.

This dress is going at half price, USD99 after discount. I am close to getting it.

I love it's details but they run out of size zero.

Back to the room to rest and relax.

26.7.2009 First day in New York City

I rise at 4.30am today and manage to get more rest, a few hours later. Mavis and I go grab lunch at Home of Good Burger on Lexington Avenue. I have cheeseburger with onion rings and unsweetened ice tea, which cost me USD13.50. Ice tea found here are mostly sugar-free, although I would prefer a sweetened one ;)

After lunch, we take a train to SOHO (South of Houston Street) and spend the whole afternoon shopping there. It's my second time to SOHO and I prefer the overall shopping experience. Formerly an artists' colony in a run-down part of town, SOHO is now a prime shopping destination, especially on the weekends, when the sidewalks of West Broadway, Prince Street, and Broadway become almost impassible.

We take a break right in front of a mobile ice cream van, savoring ice cream. It's nice to watch the crowd passing by.

After which, we head to Korean town, which is filled with countless Korean restaurants, for dinner. The restaurant is packed to the brim when we arrive during dinnertime. Before our food arrives, we are served a round of cold appetizers. The tofu soup I have is authentic! It tastes exactly like those I have tasted in Seoul! We are over-stuffed and decide to walk back to the hotel which takes us 30minutes. By the time we get back to the hotel, we are bushed. Ha. I go to bed shortly after a hot shower.

23.7.2009 One month old claypotfun

Get to know about this eatery from Patricia Mok's blog. She highly recommended the claypot rice here! So, I suggest a meal here with Sylvia when she wanna meet up to exchange photos this evening. An impromptu outing arranged when we catch each other online this afternoon ;) An hour later, we arrive East Coast Park in a jiffy and we have to wait for the eatery to open for dinner at 6pm.

We are super satisfied with the meal and promised to bring our love ones here!

Enamel metal plates and "chicken" porcelain bowls found in most Chinese homes in olden days.

Relics from the past.

Claypotfun looks like an old-fashioned coffee house with booth seats.

They serve freshly-cooked rice in claypot, which results in more fragant rice! You will have to wait at least 15mins.

On the menu is a selection of claypot rice as well as Cantonese dishes and soups cooked in claypots the traditional way.

$10.80 Salted fish with minced pork claypot comes with an old-style patty made of minced pork and salted fish. This is absolutely delicious!! I must bring my family and friends here!

$9 claypot pork liver. Am not a big fan of it ;) Keke. I eat it because it's "replenishes" my blood.

You have to add diluted soya sauce mix to the sizzling hot pot of rice and stir well, to add more flavor to the rice. A pot of rice serves two.
