22.5.2011 Distance is beauty

A deduction I gather today is not to judge a book by its cover. Why do I lament this?

Being human beings, we are naturally drawn to attractive-looking things, be it living or non-living things. I confess I am a sucker to beautiful stuffs, which includes good-looking people! Who doesn't!?

A friend whom catches my eyes at least ten years back, still send my heart racing when I see him now. He is clean-cut, stylish and well-kempt as ever, for one who is approaching mid 40s, with no signs of pouch, at the moment. After our six month acquaintance, I come to realize this once out-of-my-reach-man, is not so desirable, after all. His flaws become so apparent and I am no longer attracted to him!

Distance is beauty.

20.5.2011 My happy meal

Egg Benedict is always my number one choice on any breakfast menu. I find it hard to resist it as I love the hollandaise sauce on the eggs, which compliments the egg very much!

The simple pleasure of having breakfast on my own delights me.

I gaze out of the window, looking at passerbys making their way to work.
I eat at my own pace.
I shoot my pretty food.
I smell coffee from the next table.
I don't see any familiar faces.
I am surrounded by strangers.

And I enjoy my breakfast.

19.5.2011 A relaxing walk in the park

This is my second trip to New York this year. I guess this is one of the best seasons to visit her in. It's nice and cool in the daytime.

Lunch at Spice, in Union Square.

The High Line was built in the 1930s, as part of a massive public-private infrastructure project called the West Side Improvement. It lifted freight traffic 30 feet in the air, removing dangerous trains from the streets of Manhattan's largest industrial district. No trains have run on the High Line since 1980. Friends of the High Line, a community-based non-profit group, formed in 1999 when the historic structure was under threat of demolition. Friends of the High Line works in partnership with the City of New York to preserve and maintain the structure as an elevated public park.

Two weeks ago, I look forward to this very day to arrive. As the day draws closer, the excitement somehow dies off.

Anyhow, I wake at 7am, with four hours of rest, feeling super lethargic, to get ready for work for the next 24 hours. Yes, the next time I get a proper rest on a proper bed would be 24 hours later. (No joke!) The thought of it makes me more tired.

16.5.2011 A delightful meal

A bowl of laksa is sitting on the table when I wake at three o'clock. After my so-called lunch, I head to town to run some errands.

In the evening, Ling and I have dinner at Oriole Coffee.

We empty the tall glass as we have difficulty reaching the contents.

14.5.2011 Dessert indulgence

I have not tasted this for the longest time, hence, get one this time. I remembering paying one for A$13 the very first time I bring this home and the price goes up with time. One costs A$19 now. The rate prices go up is frightening!

It's 2 hours to my dinner appointment, so I grab a quick bite nearby at four o'clock. I didn't enjoy this fried rice and I eat it merely to fill my empty stomach.

Complimentary chicken curried soup I cannot appreciate.

This is my much awaited steak!

A colleague's pretty dessert.

My dessert consisting of a scoop of strawberry ice cream, lemon sorbet and mango sorbet each. It's such a satisfying meal.

Shortly after dinner, I retire early for morning shift tomorrow. Yes! I have to wake at three in the morning.

Today, SW treats us to steamboat at J Pot, in celebration of her son's full month, which has been postponed as we couldn't find a day for all to meet up.

A lovely colleague buys us banana milk after work. Such a thoughtful gesture.

I am out hunting for food, after a couple hours of rest.

Beef bulgogi without soup :(
I am close to ordering a soup and just about doing so, the auntie who stations outside the eatery, brings me a bowl of hot vegetable soup. That's very kind of her.

I grab a bite before heading back to room to retire. For some unknown reasons, I didn't enjoy my meal. Perhaps, I am too exhausted as I have yet to recover from graveyard shift last night. Or is it the delayed response from R.

Pumpkin pancake which I savor one third of it.

I feel over-stuffed after pouring two glasses of water down my throat. (Thanks to the chilli which stuck at my throat!) I feel so sick while I walk back to the hotel.

Mo Mo is so sick of American food after her 12d America getaway, so we have our lunch in the food court instead.

Thai pineapple fried rice.

Pandan chicken.

We have our dessert at Oriole Coffee and have a great time catching up on each others' update.

Mo Mo, Strawberry Shortcake, Raine, AL and I have our dinner at East Coast Lagoon, after the rain. Many stalls are not opened due to the earlier downpour. The patronage drops naturally, so we have no trouble getting a table this time.

Five hungry people have a big feast of local delights! We go home stuffed and satisfied!
